The Ferrario companies started in the 1930s out of the back room of a West Scranton paint store. Out of those humble Depression-era beginnings, one paint store became two, and eventually led to an expansion into insurance and real estate. Today, that same multifaceted approach continues to drive the Ferrario brothers, Jerry and Joe, whose cumulative experience in the risk management, retail, service, telecommunications, recreation, food services, sales and financial industries has positioned them to become real estate innovators in the Northeast.
Thanks to that trendsetting philosophy, the brothers have been able to create new opportunities for both themselves and their clients. Having grown up in a diversified family business, they learned from an early age the value of building, maintaining and repairing things themselves. From plowing parking lots to painting lines on those same lots, the brothers worked side by side while learning about property from the ground up.
After graduating from Villanova University with a degree in economics/finance, Jerry spent several years working in the airline industry. Although his focus was in sales, Jerry was given the chance to develop his marketing, budgeting and communication skills. Upon returning to Scranton to work with his family, his entrepreneurial talents came into focus, and he was able to see opportunities that other people didn't notice. He recognized and understood the emerging telecommunications industry of the 1980s early enough to create a company that would serve as a catalyst for the Ferrario Real Estate business, helping it to better understand the nuances of dealing with large corporations and municipalities. He also had the vision to take the business in directions other companies ignored, creating a long-term goal that included an exit strategy that allowed it to adapt to changing technology. Planning, scheduling, budgeting and value engineering are some of the most valuable skills Jerry brings to any project, property and client.
As Joe was completing his Business degree from the University of Scranton, he continued to work with his father in both real estate and the family insurance business. He also recognized retail store opportunities that would ultimately lead the brothers into various retail and service industries. For decades, Joe grew the insurance agency while developing skills in risk management, loss prevention, sales and marketing. Meanwhile, he learned the construction and real estate development business from his father. After Jerry returned to Scranton, the brothers began working together to grow the telecommunications business while continuing to gain more education and experience in real estate, construction management and finance.
Both Jerry and Joe are active members of the greater Scranton community, volunteering their time to various non-profit organizations. Of all the things they learned from their father and immigrant grandfather, they are proudest of their long-term investment in the local community. That stewardship shines through in the property and land they develop, and in their dealings with the clients they serve. Many of their projects combine historical restoration, adaptive reuse, sustainable materials, energy-efficient fixtures and alternative energy sources.
Nine decades into its existence, the Ferrario brand retains its foundational commitment to quality, ingenuity and client satisfaction.
